Briscoe Family | No. 13
640,000 ACRES
By the end of his long and distinguished life, two-term Texas governor Dolph Briscoe Jr. (1923-2010) ranked as the single largest landowner in the Lone Star State. The family’s BRISCOE RANCH COMPANY got its start with Dolph Sr. (1890-1954), and it continues today under the leadership of Dolph III “Chip” Briscoe and his two sisters, Janey Marmion and Cele Carpenter, and their families. The 100,000-acre Catarina Ranch remains the headquarters of the family’s cow-calf operation.
