Jeff Bezos

After successfully launching rockets and astronauts from his 165,000-acre CORN RANCH in Far West Texas, Jeff Bezos is now turning his attention 240,000 miles into space. Bezos’s Blue Origin aerospace company has entered into an agreement with NASA to assist with the development and flight of a manned lunar lander that can touch down anywhere on the moon’s surface. One of the priorities for Blue Origin is to produce a storable propellent that will improve performance for such high-energy, deep- space missions. The goal is to develop solar-powered cryocoolers and other technologies to prevent boil-off of the liquid oxygen fuel and liquid-hydrogen oxidizer. Blue Origin will be working on the project with a team of high-tech partners, including Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

On October 19, the BEZOS EARTH FUND announced a $60 million grant to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to restore and conserve Northern Great Plains grasslands and longleaf pine forests in the Southeast. Over the past three years, the Bezos Earth Fund has provided $90 million in funding to NFWF and more than 200 local partners. The $60 million grant marks the largest single philanthropic commitment for landscape restoration to NFWF.
