T he TV and film producer synonymous with the West these days has expanded his own ranching empire to the Cowboy State. In early September, Taylor Sheridan purchased the 179-acre Papa’s Creek Ranch in Star Valley, Wyoming, a spectacular undeveloped property about 65 miles from Jackson Hole. The ranch was listed for $4.95 million with Latham Jenkins and Matt MacMillan of Live Water Properties.

In May, the entertainment icon and owner of the legendary Four Sixes Ranch took center stage as he received honorary degrees from two Texas universities and addressed a third.

In Fort Worth, Sheridan was awarded an honorary doctor of letters from Texas Christian University (TCU). In announcing the news, TCU Chancellor Victor Boschini and TCU President Daniel Pullin cited Sheridan’s “artistic achievements as a writer, director, and producer.” Students, staff, and the picturesque Southwestern campus have all been featured on Sheridan’s hit streaming series Landman on Paramount+.

In San Marcos, Sheridan returned to his alma mater, Texas State University, more than 30 years after attending. During his undergraduate days, he studied theater. The board of regents awarded Sheridan an honorary doctor of humane letters.

Sheridan’s Texas campus tour included a final stop in Austin, where he delivered the keynote address at the University of Texas’s 142nd commencement to a crowd of more than 50,000 at Texas Memorial Stadium.
