In September, Taylor Sheridan purchased the 179-acre Papa’s Creek Ranch in Star Valley, Wyoming, a spectacular undeveloped property about 65 miles from Jackson Hole. The ranch was listed for $4.95 million with Latham Jenkins and Matt MacMillan of Live Water Properties.

While impressive, the sale accounts for a mere fraction of the creative powerhouse’s landholdings. The Texas native vaulted into the Land Report 100 when he bought the three divisions of the legendary 266,000-acre Four Sixes Ranch from the estate of Anne Marion (1938–2020). The transaction was subsequently honored as The Land Report Deal of the Year.
In the magazine’s Spring 2022 cover story, the accomplished cowboy recalled a conversation with Marion about his plans to use her historic North Texas cattle ranch as the backdrop for some of his hit shows. Regarding her land’s future foray as a film set, Marion told Sheridan, “I don’t want any violence or sex,” to which Sheridan replied, “There won’t be any violence but just a little sex.” As he recalls it, “She laughed and said, ‘OK, I trust you.’”
Perhaps Papa’s Creek Ranch will nab a starring role in one of his dramas, which include the hits 1883 and 1923. The latter program famously stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Sheridan’s other Texas ranch, the 600-acre Bosque Ranch in Parker County, has done double duty as a set for Yellowstone and its popular spin-offs.

Papa’s Creek, meanwhile, has a much different look. The Wyoming property has two meandering streams that offer superior trout fishing. Species include wild brown, rainbow, and cutthroat. Latham Jenkins of Live Water Properties highlighted the 1.35 miles of Salt River flowing through the ranch in the listing materials. The waterway is also the site of excellent waterfowl hunting.
Papa’s Creek’s territorial water rights predate Wyoming’s statehood. The flood-irrigated property produces an abundance of high mountain hay. Bookended by the Salt River Range to the east and the Webster Range to the west, the acreage is sure to inspire awe and perhaps spark an idea or two.
Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse
Out West, the Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse debuted on September 16 at the five-star Wynn Las Vegas. At the pop-up restaurant, those craving a true taste of Sheridan’s West Texas ranch can tuck into the 6666’s branded 28-ounce Cowboy Steak. “The passions in my life are telling stories and food, and with each plate served at Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse, Chef David [Middleton] and I get to do both,” says Sheridan.
Mains include the Four Sixes Original Cowboy Spice Crusted Boneless Ribeye. Even the wedge salad has a Texas twang with oven-dried tomatoes, burnt ends, blue cheese, and herb-buttermilk dressing. The Wagyu barbecue-brisket sliders feature a Four Sixes Wagon Boss BBQ Sauce. Signature cocktails include a spicy margarita concocted with Casamigos Reposado tequila, jalapeño, prickly pear, lime, organic agave nectar, and 6666 Ranch’s cowboy salt.
