“I won this buckle at the USTRC Shoot-Out at the Lazy E in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The reason it’s really special to me is because I won it when I was roping with an older gentleman by the name of Ron Brault from Cody, Wyoming. Ron is disabled. He had an old gray horse that you could head or heel on, and he would take his wheelchair up to that horse and it would lay down for him. Ron would get out of the wheelchair, strap himself in the saddle, and rope. He headed for me in ’99 when I won that buckle. “The cool part about that gray horse was when Ron was heeling, he was tied on. So when he let the rope go, if it fell off the legs of the steer, that horse would kneel down, pick the rope up off the arena, turn its head, and hand it to Ron. Then they’d ride out of the arena.”
