Agricultural data provider Ag-Analytics has been acquired by CoStar Group, the real estate information, analytics, and news platform that owns and operates Land.com. The transaction was announced on February 14. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Land.com will incorporate valuations on 2.8 million parcels of land provided by Ag-Analytics’ AcreValue platform. This will increase CoStar’s data capabilities for farmland, forestland, recreational land, and other rural properties, offering new opportunities for ag-focused investors and lenders.

AcreValue’s reports and analytics include geographical data, soil composition, elevations, and historical information. In addition, Ag-Analytics has a strategic alliance with Farmer Mac, the nation’s secondary market for agricultural credit. Currently, farm-sector real estate debt totals $355 billion. Farmer Mac leverages the AcreValue platform, which has 1.5 million registered users, as a channel to expand lending opportunities by providing financing directly to the agricultural market.

“The addition of Ag-Analytics services into the Land.com platform is yet another example of how CoStar Group blends best-in-class platforms and leading analytics to support real estate owners, brokers, operators, and professionals,” CoStar Group Founder and CEO Andy Florance said in a news release announcing the acquisition. “We have identified a massive market potential, with farm-sector real estate alone representing a $3.4 trillion asset class, creating a range of opportunities to maximize revenue and provide increased value for our clients.”

Founded in 1986, CoStar Group focuses on digitizing the world’s real estate. Its brands include LoopNet, Apartments.com, Homes.com, and Land.com. Ag-Analytics was founded in 2018 in Ithaca, New York, by Dr. Joshua Woodard of the Cornell Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management.

“We are excited to join CoStar and be part of its industry-leading real estate network,” Woodward said in the news release. “AcreValue and Land.com bring strong synergies in land data and analytics, expanding our ability to provide valuable insights and innovative solutions to landowners and buyers.”
