The Raptor nameplate has been a status symbol since the first high-performance Ford vehicle with this designation took the world by storm in 2010. Raptor created a new genre with its impressive cache of standard off-road goodies, authentic 4WD talents, and bold styling. Powered by a 3.0-liter V6, this all-new variant gets 406 horsepower and shifts with a 10-speed automatic.
Updated Styling
Although not as cheeky in its styling as the F-150 Raptor, the Ranger Raptor is easily distinguished from the updated 2024 Ford Ranger. Details include a bold block-letter FORD grille, LED projector headlights, an all-steel bumper with integrated tow hooks front and rear, flared fenders that accommodate 33-inch BF Goodrich K03 tires, a front underbody protection bash guard, plus greater ground clearance and more raked angles of approach and departure.
Off-Road Performance
The toughened truck is 4.3 inches broader than the regular Ranger with 3.5 inches more track width and 1.5 inches more wheel travel. It trades out the Ranger’s rear-leaf springs for a Watt-link suspension in the back. It comes in one trim and a single body style: a four-door SuperCrew configuration with a five-foot cargo bed and running boards to aid with ingress and egress. Also helpful are integrated side footsteps for access to the rear. A 12-volt outlet brings work-truck capability as does a tow capacity of up to 5,510 pounds. The addictive sound feedback from the active valve exhaust system can be tuned to Normal, Sport, and Baja settings, as well as a Quiet mode.

“I got the very first Raptor right when it came out in 2011. I’ve been hooked on them ever since. On my third one now. It’s such a capable truck. It’ll go through anything, which is essential here in the mountains of Northern Colorado, and it does so really smoothly. After owning a Raptor, I have a hard time driving other vehicles anymore because it’s such a plush ride, whether you’re off-roading or on-roading.
“That first one I owned for six years. I put about 150,000 miles on it. Then I got a 2017 when Ford came out with the second-generation Raptor. I put just under 100,000 miles on that one. Then I got a 2020 Raptor, which I’m still driving. It’s got almost 90,000 miles on it. I’m probably going to trade it in soon and get another one.”
