Boone Pickens’ 64,672-acre renowned Mesa Vista Ranch in the Texas Panhandle sold in two separate transactions. Bill Kent, an energy executive based in Midland, Texas, led a partnership that bought the western portion of the ranch. The 36,982-acre tract included the over-the-top improvements that spent decades installing and perfecting.

A 27,690-acre tract on the east side of the ranch was purchased by Travis Chester on September 16. The area rancher plans on running cattle on the 40-plus miles of rolling pasture.

Pickens announced his intention to sell the sprawling ranch on November 29, 2017. It closed five years and one day later on December 1, 2022.

According to Jay Rosser at BP Capital, the total of the two transactions was within 10 percent of the $170 million final asking price for the ranch.

The Mesa Vista was originally listed for $250 million . The asking price was reduced to $220 million following Pickens’ death at 91 on September 11, 2019. The price was further reduced by $50 million to $170 million on February 3, 2022.
