Iconic Illinois Horse Farm Preserved as Critical Watershed
Illinois landowner Dick Duchossois worked with Citizens for Conservation (CFC) to protect 246.5 acres of his 515-acre Hill ‘N Dale Horse Farm. Located in Barrington, the parcel includes 4,400 linear feet of the Spring Creek watershed. The acquisition will ensure the property is permanently maintained as an open space, per the Duchossois family wishes, and will provide a critical wildlife corridor. Initial funding for the purchase came from a $4.9 million Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation grant. A site evaluation has been scheduled to create multiyear ecological management plans for the property. CFC is a Barrington-based organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment across Northeastern Illinois. The acquisition of Hill ‘N Dale brings the total of protected land across Lake, Cook, and McHenry counties to 777 acres. Read more HERE.
