In October, Walmart Inc., Ørsted, and Schneider Electric announced that five major brands — including Levi’s and Smucker’s — will participate in Project Gigaton, Walmart’s renewable energy accelerator. The cohort will execute an aggregated purchase of renewable energy from Ørsted’s Sunflower Wind Farm in Central Kansas. The purchase is expected to generate approximately 250,000 megawatt-hours of new renewable power annually over the 12-year term of the agreement. This carbon offset is equal to the emissions from more than 458,000 cars. The cohort’s success will directly support Project Gigaton’s goal to reduce or avoid one gigaton of greenhouse gas emissions from the global value chain by 2030.
