This veteran journalist began writing for The Land Report
in 2019, focusing on stories involving land, land values,
and land stewardship. Each spring, Cary oversees the highly
anticipated Best Brokerages survey, which involves vetting
more than 100 firms. In that capacity, he has interviewed
dozens of leading land professionals from coast to coast.

Cary studied journalism at Auburn University before
spending 15 years as a sportswriter for his hometown
Birmingham Post-Herald. A fixture at Talladega
Superspeedway, he covered every race from 1990 through
2015. He has also covered the Masters, the World Series,
the Super Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, and, of course, the Iron
Bowl for the likes of the Associated Press, ESPN.com,
Lindy’s Sports, NBCSports.com, and PGATour.com, and Sports
Illustrated.
